I already knew something like this would come up. Just had to make a thread.
Wii's biggest flaw, in my opinion, is not the crappy online service but the damned games. There are barely any good games, and I don't see anything really promising up for the rest of 2008 except for maybe the new Zelda.
Oh and if that doesn't hurt, this does. A few days ago Microsoft lowered their prices severely on the 360. The Arcade pack is now CHEAPER than the Wii and the Pro pack's price is nearly equal to the Wii's.
The price of the Wii was like one of their biggest advantages on the War and it got trashed.
Discuss.

I agree wholeheartedly with the fact that the rev has barely any good games. It seems like they decided to
1- make loads of minigame collections rather than real games. ex-Mario & sonic at the olympics type games.
2- rely on the rev shop and remarket old games.
3- rely on a few "great" games. (SSBB, Metroid Prime 3, LoZ: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy)
As for the price cut on the 360... I don't think it's going to matter a whole lot. Pretty much anyone who wants one has one... The only real thing it's going to affect are the small percentage of people who waited til the price dropped to a low level. But even then with the issues surrounding the 360 and it's RRoD... I don't think that it'll be a huge impact. (Well not unless peple who had RRoDs decide to screw waiting for microsoft to keep fixing them and buy another console to use while their first is in the shop...)

That's very true and saddening enough Nintendo only has a few good games... I remember when Nintendo was in its prime it had a whole slew of games that were the most remembered. Now in days Nintendo is kind of lagging behind but, it manages to survive every era of gaming so far... It would suck to see it go and become just a gaming company... Oh by the way is there another Zelda beside Phantom Hour Glass coming out? Or am I just imagining things?

The problem is Nintendo has fallen into a problem of using the same old, tried and true characters for far too long. Look at how many Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Metroid and Legend Of Zelda games there are... Each of these series are over 15 years old... (Not that there's anything wrong with that in itself...) But the problem arises when (especially when you look at for example) the LoZ series... Each one is basically the same as all the others. Compare them... You use virtually the same weapons/items in every game to solve basically the same puzzles to fight virtually the same bosses.
There are a few minor differences in each of these selected sample games... (If I felt like taking the time I could examine the GB,GBC,GBA, DS and older games to find more similarities as well, but I'll just focus on these ones.) ALTTP- Dark world introduced, major focus is on switching of these worlds to solve puzzles OoT- decade switching(Well it's 7 years to be exact)... to solve puzzles MM- 3 days time control... to solve puzzles TP- Oh look, no time switching here... Owait, we now become a wolf and fight in the twilight realm... ALTTP's dark world and transformation + improvements on OoT's graphics but using the same 3D combat/play system anyone? I'm not saying they aren't good games, but they all borrow on the same ideas too much, and eventually people are just going to say: Been there done that, I guess I'll go play something else now. And if that happens Nintendo will fail.
Now that being said... I do like how they reinvigorated the Metroid series... From 2D platformer to 3D FPS, it was a good transition. And overall really changed the series up atleast in look/feel and use of the controls. But they still use the same items... but different bosses and locations. (So good for the Metroid Prime series.) So it was a good balance of new and old.

But there won't be another Metroid Prime. The next game will return to 2D (Thank god!) with Metroid Dread for the DS
Yes, there's another Wii Zelda being made, scheduled to be released this summer.

The MP series was good while it lasted... (Though I've yet to beat the first and second... And the third is out of the question for now. Don't even own a rev, and not likely to until the 7th gen is almost over... At which point I'll pick up a rev + atleast one of the games I want for 50$)
But as for the new LoZ game... wonder if they'll make any major changes to it, or if it'll fall into the trap of familiarity they've established...

I can see a solution to their game lacking problems. Maybe put in a new Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana game. As I remember, those games did pretty well.
I'd like to see the new MGS4 on the wii, but it's going to be PS3 exclusive, in fact, most of my favorite series are PS3 and Xbox 360 exclusive now. Wonder what Nintendo was doing that whole time during The Last Gen. Developing the Wii I guess.

The Wii is not even close to being powerful enough to hold MGS4. Then again, the DS has a really crappy version of CoD4, but that's a portable console, it'd have to be really similar if it was ported to another console of the same generation.
FFXIII is not on the 360 due to the 360 not being powerful enough to run it.

Ok, I have 12 PS2 games and 8 Wii games, with me having the PS2 for a hellofalot longer than said Wii.
Really, the Wii is my kind of system when compared to the 360, which seems to focus on realistic, shooting games, alot of which focus on army-settings(And I HATE games like that).
I haven't noticed any of these similiarities in old games that Virus talked about. Mario pretty much gets a completely new feature in each game(64 being the most basic, Sunshine getting Fludd, and Galaxy had the gravity-changing). LoZ is kinda repetitive, but I don't see it repeating too much. I mean, Windwaker was set in an era where most of the world was underwater and you had to sail most places.
The Wii shop feature is just that, a feature. They don't rely on it, people just go there so they can download old games that they may not have anymore, like Super Metroid.
I don't think it's dead yet, and it's not gonna be until games stop being made for it.

I kinda saw this coming a mile away. I think that most game developers were kinda put off by the whole "swinging sticks in the air" idea. I mean, six generation went by with little controllers with little buttons on them, and then along comes all this motion sensor stuff. Either it was a really bad idea or the world wasn't ready for it.
And seriously, when you compare the games to the other two platforms, it's just the same ol', same ol'. Both the 360 and the PS3 are pushing in new stuff with new plots and new charecters, while Nintendo is publishing an adventure platform with a fat plumber saving a princess. Again.
I have little experience with the Wii, and it was fun to swing those things for about five minutes, after which it became boring. The novelty wore off too quickly to build an entire system on.
I'd like to point out that all my criticism is based only on facts that I have gathered, as I do not personally own a Wii. I know of it's capabilities and it's basic functions, as well as it's library of games.

The Wii's shop is not that great.
The Virtual Console sucks simply because every game that's there, you already have in real life or already played it in some other manner.
Playstation Network, do people EVEN USE that?
Xbox Live Marketplace is the winner on this parameter. It has amazing games on Live Arcade and over half of them have online play.
Regarding lag and online service again. The 360's online (Xbox LIVE) is by far the best online service of all the consoles but it is paid (For PLAYING online, you can still download demoes and be a spectator in games without paying. But it's a good price for such good quality service)

Who was it that said:
"I don't want to have to do a backflip to kill someone... I'd rather just sit down and press the x button and relax."
(I can't remember whether that was said here or somewhere else...)
As far as the motion sensing goes... it is a bit gimmicky, just to sell consoles.
And seriously, this quote is exactly what I'm saying...
And Peytral, Mario gets a SINGLE new feature in each game... How's that revolutionary? It's the same story, same basic controls, same cast of characters (Maybe throw in a few trivial new characters. )
As for the feature of the shop... they still market it and use it to make money off of. Thus they do rely on it.
But so what you have 12 ps2 games in it's life time but you have 8 rev games... Which games are those by chance? possibly the only good games that will actually ever come out for the rev? (the SSBB, Metroid Prime 3, LoZ: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy etc...)

Psh. Fat plumber that went to SPACE. How badass is that.
PS2 has an excelent game library, I have like 20 games and there's still a huge amount I want to try. But we can't really compare the PS2 here in terms of library since it's from last gen.

I have 60 ps2 games (And yet about 10-15 more I still want...) Whilest my gamecube I have 8 games and only about 8 more I want...
I suppose your right, can't compare them yet... As the ps2 is almost over and the rev is only begun.
As for the PSN, I've registered for it, but I haven't had alot of time to test it out... As that the ps3 is my brother's and sits about 100-110km / 60-66 miles away from me most of the time. That and the fact my brother only has 2 ps3 games (atleast that I know of for now...) which are Motorstorm and DMC4.
