I strictly go with pokemon I think are cool(exception being togetic. I never used it in the old games and just wanted to try this time). If I can't win with pokemon I like, then I have no business in battles.
Also, my first team is complete(evolution-wise) and mys econd team is revised:
1. Typhlosion lvl. 67 Steelix lvl. 57 Togekiss lvl. 58(its cry is...wierd.) Dragonite lvl. 58 Gyarados lvl. 57 Pidgeot lvl. 59
2. Pichu lvl.15 Eevee lvl. 17 Croconaw lvl. 18 Vulpix lvl. 14 Zangoose lvl. 10 Scizor lvl. 17
of course, team 2 is in training, though I haven't focused on it much. I prefer to do it at night so I won't have any mistakes(lookin for an umbreon)
Oh yea, anyone mess with that little pokewalker thing yet? lol. I got a total of 52545 steps and 2438 of these watts or whatever.

Im getting one of the two today due to there not being anymore SF or BN games. I need something like those games to pick me up a bit when I'm board.
I dunno what version to get. I like bugs, and I love Poliwag. Poliwag is my must have pokemon, along with Beedrill, spinarat, butterfree, and venamoth. What version would suit me best?

I think spinerat is exclusive to HeartGold, so you should go for that. I've never seen a caterpie in soul silver but there are dozens of weedle. I may be confusing them with trainer pokemon, but I think venonats are in soul silver too(though they're probably in both)
My suggestion is to go for Heart Gold. anything they don't have, I'll trade you.

@ Saylen: Moltres is in Mt. Silver now, I can understand your confusion. Moltres' lair changes quite a bit from game to game. Try checking bulbapedia for quick answers though, its been very useful for me.
@ SS: You look like your team is pretty far ahead of the rest of us at this point, how much of Kanto have you completed? And no, I haven't done anything with the pokewalker, I don't really understand it and I'm worried that if I put a pokemon on there that it'll learn a move or something that I don't want.
@ Vile: If is bugs you're concerned about I can tell you that Silver has Ledyba and Gold has Spinarak, and asside from that both versions have the rest. You'll be able to get Beedrill, Butterfree and Venomoth in either version, though maybe get Gold if you want Spinarak and don't want to trade one of us for it. Poliwag is in either version as well.
I beat the Elite Four last night, current team is as follows:
Feraligatr - lvl 52 - He didn't fight for most of the Elite Four, I kept him strong for Lance. His Ice Fang tore the dragons apart and very nearly soloed the champ.
Ampharos (Baawb) - lvl 49 - Indispensable, I took out the majority of the Elite Four with Ampharos and Typhlosion, as a great majority of the Pokemon you'll be fighting have a weakness to electricity and fire. Now if you throw in a ice type and either a flying or a psychic you've got the game won. Baawb took out most of Will, helped with Koga and Karen and one shot Lance's Gyrarados. I love my Baawb.
Typhlosion - lvl 48 - Kicks the crud out of Koga and is a nice assist for Karen. I kept him as a Cyndaquil until level 40 so as to get Flamethrower and Rollout earlier and I'm very glad I did. Typhlosion has a well deserved spot in my big 3.
Lugia - lvl 48 - I don't like having to use a legendary, but my Noctowl is not up to par this game and he gets me through Bruno. Probably won't make my end team because I don't like to rely on legendaries and because I know he'll be banned from competitions, which I want to take part in.
---------------------------------------- From here on out my party is a little weaker and I'm not entirely sure who will step up and fill in my last 2-3 spots. Contenders are:
Snorlax - lvl 41 - The Rest and Sleep Talk combo makes me happy, and she has an absurd amount of health so I can usually Rest her and re-use her, and I'm a fan of how much damage that Body Slam does.
Gengar - lvl 38 - Got benched through the Elite Four, as both Will and Karen have a high type advantage and he doesn't have any significant edge over anyone. I've been getting a little bit tired of Gengar as of late, its not as strong as the one I had back on Red version but I'm hopeful that if I pick up some good TMs that I can make her useful, Gengar are very versitile like that.
Dragonair - lvl 40 - I hate Dratini so much, and it was a huge relief when it finally evolved and got a speed boost. Not too powerful yet but I'll probably stick with it until I get me a Dragonite.
Pupitar - lvl 32- Same deal as Dratini, though he was bred with Stone Edge and that made him pretty darn useful. Benched through the Elite Four for the same reasons as Gengar.
Noctowl is benched for good, though I've got a Koffing, a Scyther, a Mudkip, Gible, Lucario and Nidoran in my bank that I'd like to start training, as well as 5 Eevee eggs so we'll see what happens.

yay! i can now find Moltres and have all ledgends!! thank you! Note: once you've taken all leaders down, look around the towns. you may find a gym leader outside their gym. if you do, they'll give you their phone number so you can challenge them to a rematch (so i know: Blane is Tuesday daytime, Chuck Wednesday night)

Well I literly just bought Silver. Going to start it up when I get home tonight.
I was talking about my bug deal with the dude working at game stop and he told me there's a park glitch where you can get any insect from either version, so it was kind of a coin toss for me then.
For now though I think Im going to love the pok'e walker thing. make my poliwag super strong without harming his cute body ^_^

yea, I looked it up before I got the game; there's no harm in the pokewalker. A pokemon can only level up once while in it, and even then, it doesn't level up until it goes back in the game--and when it does, all extra options are the same(you see it level up, you get to decide new move options, ect.) My typhlosion has always been a great step above my other pokemon both because it seems to not need as much exp to level up as well as this pokewalker thing. Also, I'm hearing on sites that if you lose the pokewalker, you can still get your pokemon back; it would be just as if you never put it in there. eh, I wish you could turn the option off though...thanks to it, I have a handful of rattata and paras. lol exp share helped alot. I've been takin it easy and training my second team cuz I want them to be my fighters for kanto. and since everyone's at lvl 35+, it'll be a little while. Aside from some of the ones at lvl 58, my starters haven't seen much action since E4. they took out Lt. Surge and Misty though. (Surge just to get it over with--I'm not teaching any of my pokemon cut, so I just used my oddish I randomly snagged earlier in the game and took the guy out. Misty for fun. I wanted to see what she looked like. Not very impressive. ) other than that, I've just been goin around exploring, and training my new team.

Try checking bulbapedia for quick answers though, its been very useful for me. thank you! i now has Moltres! it's not too good in Battle Arcade, but is awesome in Battle Tower. Speaking of which.... anyone want to form a Battle Tower team? i has these pokémon ready to battle: Typhlosion (Double Edge, Rollout, Flamethrower, Eruption) Moltres (Ancientpower, Flamethrower, Overheat, Air Slash) Zapdos (Ancientpower, Charge, Discharge, Shock Wave) Articuno (Ancientpower, Agility, Ice Beam, Avalanche) Sceptile (Slam, Giga Drain, Leaf Blade, False Swipe) and others for miagration now for possible team... Charizard (Flamethrower, Blast Burn, Dragon Claw, Aerial Ace) Blaziken (Fire Punch, Blaze Kick, Double Kick, Sky Uppercut) Dragonite (working on move list customisation) Pidgeot (Wing Attack, Fly, Mimic, Quick Attack (working on improvements)) Metagross (Psychic, Meteor Mash, Confusion, Strength) if anyone want's team, just let me know what pokémon are preferred in the team and what dates are set for Battle Tower

The weedle is in my pocket right now lol anywho I've yet to get my first badge, so Im wondering if this will do well against him. I have a few other's I caught like Hoothoot, Gastly, and a bellasome. Right now I'm trying to get a friend to trade me a catterpi.

I have a level 14 Quilava now, his name is fire-back NOOO!!! you should have waited to evolve!! i kept mine as a Cindiquil until level 20, and Quilava until level 40! it realy pays off in later battles having a pokémon at a higher level then most people have theirs at the same stage as you! I really want a tag team in the Tower.... the computer trainer just attacks everything I can beat, and then i have to attack the other pokémon with moves that are useless against it (eg. last battle, my Zapdos and teammate's Galade, enimies have polywhirl and Sandshrew. i use shock wave on polywhirl to find out Galade (who's quicker) uses thunderpunch on it, and then my attack has no effect on Sandshrew who then uses rock tomb on me)

Heh, if I remember right the first gym is a bird guy. ( And isn't there a spot south of Violet city where you can nab a Mareep early on?) So if you get that Mareep and train it up some then you can make a clean sweep of the first gym.
And Mareep evolves into Flaafy then Ampharos so it's pretty much useful throughout the game. (Or at least it was for the original silver on GBC. Yeah, I checked my party on the GBC and it's still there, everything still works for me too.)

If you're confident in beating them, save before each fight. I only did that so that in case a good attack missed that was vital to the fight(lets say Hydro Pump against Whats her face's Houndoom...), I could go back and restart.
I have absolutely no idea what Will does. Do what I did and T.K.O. him with your strongest. Burn Koga...if you can. pick of bruno with fly--but becareful of his machamp since it can hit pokemon using fly with an attack with a high critical hit ratio.
The girl, for the most part, is pretty easy. She starts of with an umbreon with high defense. If you have a lvl 60, one-shot it outta there or else it'll waste your time with double-team. do the same for the houndoom. I don't remember anything else about her.
I got nothing to say towards lance-I beat him with sheer power.
