I personally believe that Obama would do a good job, it's admitted by even the people who prejudice him for being Muslim, that he'll to a better job. But it's not actually if he'll do a good job or not, it's of course the racial factor.
Apparently, a lot of America doesn't want a black person to represent them... It's not about people seeing him as a man or a black man, it's about who he's representing. No one cares if anyone does a good job or not, because in elections and campaigns nowadays, it's all about Charisma and looks, no one cares if you're as dumb as hell, it's just that, "If you look good, you'll win", in the end it's a popularity contest, that's democracy for you.
Of course, let's hope he does a good job, but I hear that it's gonna be like this in the KKK and Neo Nazis.
"Alright everyone, we have a situation here... We're going to go kill the President".
Now I actually laughed at that when someone impersonated it in Art class today.
Though thanks to Obama's rise to presidency, there's 20% of the collages being made, with Obama's face in it.

So why then, do we make a huge deal about him being the first black president? The fact that he's black should mean nothing, it shouldn't be huge cause for celebration or commotion. He's a person and he's the next president, if you want people to stop saying racist things then stop making it such a big deal that we finally have a black president. IMO something like this is more important than celebrating New Years. If we all saw life as narrow-mindedly as that we might as well all just kill ourselves since it just doesn't matter.

That's not thinking narrow mindedly, that's me treating him exactly the same as I would any other person. Why can't you people have an arguement without calling anyone who disagrees 'narrow minded' or 'igorant'?

Because you keep bringing it up and you know like all hell that it's comming. No, but seriously. Everyone knows that it's hard as hell to separate emotions from politics and you'll never get around that. No one will, unless you spend your life constructing up two bots of opposing political views and have them battle it out. I think that's pretty much the only way for you to get what you want. Not even experts can do that. (Debate without somehow expressing personal feelings and whatnot, that is...) Amd I right? Am I wrong?

Why can't you people have an arguement without calling anyone who disagrees 'narrow minded' or 'igorant'? Air Marshal: "You people?" Adam Sandler: "Oh now wait a minute, I don't mean you people I mean you people." Air Marshal: "Sir, I will not tolerate any racist behavior on the plane. This is a very difficult time for our country." Adam Sandler: "I know that. I'm not a racist. I just want to watch the movie." Air Marshal: "I'm only going to say this one more time sir. Calm down!" Adam Sandler: "I'm calm!" Air Marshal: "(shock him with a stun gun.)" On-topic: politics are rubbish. I trust that Bush will declare martial law and start a thousand-year dynasty. That, or, it's gonna be CHANGE!!

I never saw Obama being from a minority race as a reason to put him in the White house. Not only is he the first in that respect, but he's the first Democratic president in a while as well.
From what I see: he is an American, he has worked here and saw what had befallen us over the past few years. And he has a plan to help bring the middle class out of the grave that this economy has dug them into. In other words: I see his plan as a way to break the system of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
(And thank God too, I'm tired of my family living from paycheck to paycheck. It's seriously impacted us because we haven't sold our old house- and it's been over 4 years of paying bills for 2 houses, even though the old one was vacant for a long time. Even now, we're renting it to some cousins of ours)

I agree with Tank, it seems like everyone is making a big deal out of this by continually saying: "First Black President." or "A Black President"... Really, that's not a good way to look at it. As it seems to suggest, to me anyway, that people who say that might think that a black person might never have been able to become president. (And thereby reinforcing some racist thoughts.)
Obama, for me, just happens to be President #44. I trust that he will do a good job. And to me, and it seems that most of America agrees with me on this (as evidence by the fact he was elected), that he is the better of the 2 candidates. And with any luck his policies will help Americans in these troubling times. (Because let's face it, a depression is either upon us or coming shortly.) And we're all in some part tied to the American economy, so if they fail, we're going to suffer. Therefor if Obama can change it and pull the economy back up by helping the middle income guys, then it'll all be for the better.

The reason racism is such a big deal is because the idea of overcoming racism has been a big deal in this country. For almost half a century we have had the difficulty of trying to make people of all races (especially black and white) equal. The reason why this is such a big deal to people is because until recently the very idea of a black president was inconceivable. Him overcoming the racial barrier was the sign that change is indeed coming and there is now a new hope that the image of a president isn't just some old white guy anymore. Thanks to him people of every ethnicity can dream of making it into office.
But on the other side of the coin you also have the people that are actually racist in this country. And they will do radical things to try and change it as we have seen in the past. This is the other reason why Obama's race is important. However i think that race won't be that big of an issue in about 30-40 years. In that time my (or our depending on your age when you read this because i have no idea how old you guys are) generation will have taken over and since my/our generation has grown up with equality all around us then we will bring that into our society.
But i can see why you choose to view him as another president. In that regard you are correct. His economic plans and philosophies of how to govern should be the only thing to take into account. From what i see he is going to do well. He is bringing people that were part of the Clinton Administration back to help him, but he is also bringing in new people. This mix will help tie in the new ideas and old ones and i feel will create a mix that will help our economy rise again. The bad part is that China and other countries are growing at a pretty fast rate and we have to pull ourselves out of this ditch and catch up if we want to stay at the top.
We just have to see how things play out. Right now people have high expectations for him, and if he screws up then he will crash and burn. So he is walking on a very tight rope right now. But also if he does well then he'll come out shining and will dominate the next election if he decides to run again.

I might not live in the USA, but I do think Obama might and might not do a good job. As much as I remember, he wants peace with Iran. And if that plan will succeed, I can see some problems with my country and Iran with their future nukes. (I live in Israel incase you didn't know.)

Why can't you people have an arguement without calling anyone who disagrees 'narrow minded' or 'igorant'? I never said you were narrow minded or ignorant. I said the statement was narrow minded. There shouldn't be anything wrong with celebrating the fact he's black. In fact, it should be a good thing, cause it shows America is more free and fair than most other countries. It's not like everyone is being too dramatic by discussing this.

-giggles- Nice poster SonicShadow!
But i feel i must add that when a person's ideas are attacked, Rio, it can usually be misconstrued as you attacking them. After all you are attacking their own personal beliefs.

I don't attack personal beliefs. That belief is very common among people. When I say it I say it to everyone with that common belief. Not to say I mean it personally, because I don't personally know everyone who believes it. I apologize if I may sound harsh, because I never intended it that way.

No, it's ok. I was just trying to explain that while you may not intend to attack a person's personal beliefs when you attack their view points then it's just as if a person's personal beliefs are attacked with it. But thats just the way i see it. I apologize if i stepped on your toes.

Not to be rude dude ,but how does that apply to this out of curiosity? I remember that speech ,but seriously who thought about the video? Just wondering really is all...
Anyways a countdown intill he reaches office is getting quite near and people have resorted to vile crimes with out care... That is injustice! Can no one stop them? What kind of society is this that can't except change? Why do such things? Was it all neccessary for this? Hate crimes and random attempts of murder have to be involved because you can't deal with it? Sorry brothers and sisters I wasn't reffering to anyone on here... Just got a little angry out of this entire hectic year and I am glad its over ,but there will be more stuff like this in the future.... Sad days will come and chaos has again grown in The USA....
