I just watch the first episode that Hollow Ichigo is in. BTW, it's episode 59.

He actually first appears in the episode when Zarkai fights Ichigo, when he fights his inner self.

Technically, his first appearance was right before he got his shinigami powers back and he started to transform into a hollow.

I do believe that Ichi was referring to the black and white hollow inside Ichigo's mind, not Ichigo wearing a hollow mask. While it is true that this is the first time he appears (as far as I can remember, but don't rely on that), the Ichigo-Byakuya fight is the first time that Ichigo uses the hollows power, or rather, the Hollow uses Ichigo's power. =P This is indicated by the hollow mask that appears on his face.

I would have to say that the first time he uses the hollow's powers was during the final strike of his fight with Zaraki Kenpachi, due to the mask-y aura surrounding him. And if you remember, Yoruichi tells Ichigo that the only thing that prevented him from getting cut in half was the mask.

It could also be a reference to the fact that Ichigo's Hollow and Zangetsu are the one and the same. Of course, these are mere theories. The possibilities are nearly endless. One such alternative is that he was subconsiously tapped into the hollow. Another one is that the Hollow was secretly helping Ichigo, knowing that survival comes first.

Yes, I agree. Ichigo could not have purposely tapped into his hollow power, since he could not until episode, like, a hundred something. Which brings up a curiosity in me. If Ichigo ever "powered down" his zanpakutou, would it still be just a hilt, or would it have repaired itself, as Zabimaru seems to do quite often.

Now, this is indeed a curious case. What kind of effect can it have on the blade's regenaration, having a hollow-zanpakuto. Also, does this suggest a deeper relationship between Ichigo and his blade? I mean, if he dominates both Zangetsu and his hollow, does his power multiply or something? So many questions, so few answers.

hmmm. Also, I wonder why Zangetsu never does revert back to its original form. When a shinigami is unconcious, the blade is supposed to revert back automatically, but Zangetsu obviously does not. It's as if it's "lost" one of its transformations.

Ichigo's first sword was like Uryiu (Quincy guy) said. It was like a faucet on full flow, then he learns to control his spirit powers better, then he just got used to it. Also, looks at Kenny's sword. He doesn't know the name, hence it has no other form. Maybe the Unknown forms are always different, and they permentally change when the name is learned. I don't know...

Ichigo couldn't make his sword return to normal size even when he's KO'ed because his spirit power is just to great... (Which if my comparison is right, then everyone who is stronger shouldn't be able to either... atleast not without incredible difficulty in supressing that much energy.)
As far as regenerating, as long as the sword owner survives, the sword will regenerate. (Because it is an extension of their spirit energy.)

I believe Ichigo's father explained it as not a suppresion of power, but a compression and refinement of the raw power. And Darc Abyss, I like your theory concerning Ichigo's and Kenpachi's zanpakutou. It makes a lot of sense.

This is explained perfectly well in the series. Ichigo was never given official shinigami training, and thus lacks the skills necessary to keep his power under control. This is why Zangetsu is always in Shikai form. His lack of training is also obvious when he cannot control the orbs they use to infiltrate Soul Society.
Ichigo's Bankai finally fixes this flaw, as he then focuses his power into a form so small that others cannot believe it's power.

Which is kinda funny when you compare Ichigo's bankai with Ikkaku's or Toushiro's, considering how huge thiers' are. Actually, come to think of it, everyone's bankai except Ichigo's creates something huge. Please correct me if I am wrong.
