Ever wonder why that name was picked for the ultimate human sanctuary and paradise? Why "Neo Arcadia"? Was it derived from a different language, as many names are? Does it have a special meaning? Or was it picked because it simply sounded cool? If anyone wants to do any research on the name "Neo Arcadia", post what you find out here. And if you know anything off the top of your head, share your wisdom with us.

as for arcadia, it was chosen probably because as already stated there was a region in greece with that name and the myth behind it was that Zeus (or Jove for all you who prefer the roman name.) had destroyed several of the titans and their evil essence scattered across the land and infected mankind, Zeus went to earth to closely inspect the damage and saw much evil, finally he decided he would head to Arcadia, which he remembered was always a great place, upon arriving the towns people gave him a heroes welcome (even though they did not know he was a God) he was invited to feast with the king of arcadia (an evil and powerful man who did terrible things that benefitted his kingdom but hurt everyone elses) and who suspected that the traveller was really the God, Zeus, and proposed to test this by attempting to kil him, Zeus however figured out the intention of the king and reduced the kingdom of Arcadia to rubble with his lightning bolts from the heavens.
if you read carefully of what i said, you'll notice some similarities between Zeus- Zero the King- weil the lightning bolt from heaven- the ragnarok cannon the name of the levelled city
and yes for your information i did read the section of greek myths in ovid's book metamorphose where this tale/myth was.

so your saying that the name was chosen with this in mind, 3 games prior to the actual demolishing of the city?

probably, there are alot of games with historical events taken into account, and why would this be different?

viruszero, you said Zeus used his lightning bolts to level the city, but it was wiel who inteded to use the ragnorok cannon, but kraft who actually went through with it. He didn't really try for the city as much as Weil's base tho. As far as the "why neo arcadia" question, I'd agree with Ice Cream Reaver on this one.

Neo Utopia... oh god the cheese... and it isn't a Utopia as we well know. So I don't think the name truly fits, besides I don't think lines like "You dare threaten the utopia of NEO UTOPIA ZERO! FOR THIS SHALL PERSISH!"
Or something to that effect.

yes but in the end didn't the cannon still get fired? and zero was there when it was fired (despite in the myth Zeus did the firing and in this craft did, so i guess the characters craft and zero are both like parts of Zeus) and yes weil did intend to use the cannon (but no man can wield that much power alone and it backfired on him) but Zeus/Zero stopped him.
but i didn't say you had to agree with me, this is merely an added look (and a bit of greek mythology) at a choice in the naming decision of a part of the game.

No, no. I see where you're coming from. But one more thing, did the myth have anything to say about the evil king surviving and attempting to overcome Zeus? That's over all what happened in Zero4.

actually the myth did go on to say that Zeus turned the king into a blood thirsty wolf instead of killing him. so if you compare that to what happened in Zero 4... Zero beat Weil and it made him more bloodthirsty and more beastlike (maybe even wolf like.)

No... because simply put, that doesn't account for the whole Area Zero thing.

doesn't it? i think that it does because weil (the king) was a bad guy and hurt everyone else for his own kingdoms benefit right? area zero is the place that he tried to destroy for his own benefit (keep the people in neo arcadia instead of going to area zero where they can be free of his rule, and face it whats a kingdom without subjects? nothing so it benefits the kingdom to have the subjects.)

Guys, guys, I can state simply how Area Zero, Craft's firing of the cannon instead of Weil, and all this fits in:
Capcom's creation.
Of course you're all right; I can see now how this was BASED off a myth. But the rest of it was all Capcom's doing, it's really that simple.
