if you had to choose to beat X 1 with only 1 part upgrade (dash etc) which one would you choose?

Yeah, I've done X1 with only the boots (although you are also forced to get the buster). I almost did it without the boots too using a cracked password, but I was only able to get past the spider one time. That itself wasn't easy. I know it can be done though, and I've heard of people beating it and causing a glitch at the end of the final city run for X where they tell you the cast.

It'd have to be the boots. Its almost impossible to beat the X series without dashing, you're just too slow otherwise.

The body armor, where every damage is halved. None is all I need(though it truly is challenging) but I'd like that only....and don't you have to get the boots?

Yes, boots are required. You can't make certain jumps without dashing. And most bosses will kick your butt.
