editing ripped sprites isn't sprite theft. and you can't ask credit if you ripped the sprites, because YOU din't made them. you can edit them if you want. Actually, it is illegal. We're all illegal for editing sprites. Doesn't everyone already know this? EDIT: Oh, the thread was locked, didn't notice it.

Actually no, we're not breaking the law. Because, as I understand, Capcom has issued a statement saying they didn't care if sprite/flash/comic artists use Megaman sprites. As long as we don't make money off it, they don't care. (They even view it as free advertising.)
