Your reasons to play videogames

Well this kind of subject came up when some idiot who insulted another guy on the other forum about how they enjoy game well enough said about that as we do not want negativity ,but lets cut to the chase. What is your reason to play a video game period what makes you willing to waste life just to play the game you love and enjoy to no end.

Here are the categoreies.

General Gameplay

General gameplay could be anything ,but some narrow it down to how a game is played or how you play said game. If your are like me this is a no brainer as this is considered a top reason to play a game. From good old fashion platforming to games that require grinding this is what makes a game a game.

Story

Believe it or not there are people who love stories and most games by far have good stories. A person who plays game for this reason is solid because what good way to set the atmosphere to game is by giving it story as in you have a purpose to run to this spot inthe level. Good examples of story are more towards games that are called RPG's.

Music

The most basic and old games had no music ,but when the NES hit the scene music was everything and thats a que to help set the tone of the game. From cool traveling music to killer boss sections what can you do without music. Though this isn't a good reason to play a game ,but its because of the music you can go back to a game and know who that character is or what the mood is like.

Graphics

Generally to me this is completely retarded reason ,but hay if thats the reason you enjoy your game then so be it. Though sometimes this isn't a bad thing ,but now in days we have games with excellent graphics ,but no substance to back up the art and work for the game as in its just a movie and that it not even worth a rental.

Achievements

To me this is a worthless idea ,but if you really think about this helps people to get through a game with challenges that are pointless or too damn hard. Though this is more for bragging rights if anything towards your freinds or people you invite on your online escapades.

Glitching

To me this is kind neat to see what the makers of games forgot to fix ,but if you enjoy locking yourself in a space and can't leave than have at it. Sometimes glitching is a fun ,but other times it could royally screw up your game.

Thought of a couple more:

Comradery - Games are best played with others. I realize there are many games out there that have to be single player, but I love going through a game with someone and any game which has a co-op mode scores points with me. Also, a solid multiplayer provides good replay value and a good way to waste time with friends. Gaming should be a bonding experience, not an excuse for someone to remain socially isolated.

Competition - Most of us have that one game we pick up naturally, or just love it so much you can't help but get good at. When this happens we get a little bit competitive, maybe go to local tournaments to seek out more skilled players and see how good you really are. And then there's bragging rights and possibly even a title or prize money. This shouldn't be the sole reason one plays games, but can be one of many.

Good enough for me to pass as a reason, this thread is kind of an insult towards a guy after reading his comment of insulting another fan's view of playing the games he loves. So that how this thread started because it made me sorta angry and I rarely get worked up over pointless banter and my fuse is about to explode at the time and that's the reason behind this thread. So my reasons sound like I'm ranting a little to get rid of excess steam because that was the last straw at that point after spending a decent amount of time in that discussion blog over on the public forum which hints to me I should aviod that as much as humanly possible ,but it can't be helped...

(Playful) Griefing.
There's nothing quite like playing a match of Lemmings and planting a blocker in your opponent's path, and then you can't help but grin when he turns on of his drones that you'd lead to your gate into a Digger and quipping "You really dug your own grave there, didn't you?" For me, multi-player is less of a bonding experience and more of a cathartic relief. Unless it's Guitar Hero or something, but that's another thing entirely. Speaking of...

Fantasy.
Not exactly fantasy in the swords and sorcery sense. Some times, but not always. It's generally always an enjoyable experience to step into someone else's shoes and live as them for a while, and while every form of media so far has served as an outlet for that to some degree, gaming has covered it the most thoroughly so far.

Kick-arse tunes.
I've expressed my dislike of the Halo series in the past (and plan to do so more in the future), but I'll say this about it: it's got one Hell of a theme.

Although I kinda have to subtract all the points I give them for the awesome music because it feels a tad too primal for a future-space shooter type setting.

Stories or characters that I've found appealing.
Mega Man Zero, Legend of Zelda, Mega Man X: Command Mission, Final Fantasies IV, VI and VII, No More Heroes, the list goes on.

Nostalgia

With older games always coming back with new sequals you tend to wonder why you enjoyed the first to play the second and so forth. A lot times we play games for that reason because it was the first time, then they add things and change things up to make either something exciting or crappy ,but regardless of how you feel the first game is always with you as you play the others in the seires. Sometimes it the second game memories the ring you in and same can be applied to the next sequal or something entirely different.
