Well time to be local and talk story I guess... Sorry no pictures due to weired camara I've had and I'm a bit lazy to work up to getting my dad's camara. Well this was my trip for the most part went to Vancouver Washington first via car trip about 5-6 hours then we stayed the night at my aunts whom is a bit of on the looney side OCD and loves to talk story just as much as I do ,but for the most part I'm quiet about how she talks about her trip to the island and about what she ate... Which must have been her highlight of the trip I guess...
In the Wong family its common for us to eat a lot especailly on trips when family is involved. The purpose of this trip was to celebrate Great Grandma's 90th birthday really and all the kids, Grand Kids and the Great Grand Kids I being the oldest of Great Grand of the 3rd generation of Wongs had to be present for this one of a kind event... Though not to fond on the nine course dinner really because I don't really eat as much as I used to ,but Great Grandma Wong was a machine and putting us all to shame.
Anyways back track a bit... We took the plane to Hawaii in Portland which is not far from Vancouver 5 hours later. We made it to Hawaii and into the Humidity I entered... Oh I dreaded the humidity since I'm a Mainland Boy and used to the dryness of Spokane... Other than that the trip was enjoyable.
We stayed with my Aunt Diane my Dad's sister at Hickum Airforce Base and soon to be combined with Pearl Harbor Naval base. That is where we slept and relaxed from the hot days of Hawaii. The day after we got off the plane we relaxed my sister was anxious to shop at the Swap Meets and at other locals. I was tired an interested to learn recipes got couple ,but haven't been used here in my kitchen yet... That was that day.
The next day was the birthday and man it was hectic and fun at the same time I guess. Got to see all my cousins and other family about 80 members or more of our family was present. It was talk and food and my cousin Mathew... Annoying at times ,but hay he's only 11 and hasn't seen me in 5 years since our last visit to the islands.
For the remiander of our days we continued eating and enjoying the place and beach hopped here and there. For the most part we been to 4 beaches and only stepped foot on Waikiki only stepped foot is the key word here. It was crowded with tourists like usual... The highlight of that day was really the Shave ice that day. I hated that day because my sister took the reins and went shopping which bugged me to no end b ecause a lot of the places were out in the open sun and my foot acting up.
Later that week it was eating and relaxing and then on Thursday My dad and I went to trian with Shihan Kanananui. If you are wondering what a Shihan is its basically a title after sensei and in our system a fifth degree balckbelt. Shihan translate to as teacher of teachers. He was on the windward side of the island about an hour drive across the island.
Friday was our last day so we did it Wong style... Eating and more eating... We also came back that night to the mainland with a lot of baggage to carry... When we got back home the house was fine though in some spots dirty so I spent Sunday and today cleaning and monitoring the place like usual. This concludes my island adventures for now. Maybe in another 5 years will come back again.
