... 3.
AKA Earthbound 2. GBA game, required some fantranslation to get it in english, but that's nonsense that is irrelevant.
Regardless, the game is sick awesome. Playing it through like 3rd time in a row now, still tears being jerked at the drama-moments and laughs cracking out at the funny bits.
So, what I'm curious about is... has anyone else played this masterpiece? I presume you've at least played Mother 2/Earthbound on SNES, which was also good, but IMO a mere footnote to this one!
EDIT: And we're speaking of manly tears here. So manly that if any of 'em drop on the ground, hair starts growing immediately from the spot.
EDIT2: I tried to think of a way to make the topic title suggest that we're speaking of your MOM but I couldn't come up with a way it'd work. Sorry to disappoint ya'll chaps!

I was playing Earthbound for awhile, but I was growing tired of getting owned by flying saucers and trees randomely combusting to flames on me, so I gave it a little break. Is Mother 3 the one that holds Lucas?

Jawohl, suppose most folks just know him from SSBB.
Plus... The trees are just there to teach thy the meaning of scrolling HP bar. They shouldn't be a problem unless you fight more than one enemy at a time and for some weird reason decide to kill the tree first. :p
And you really should finish the game, if only for the absolute awesome that is the final boss. The battles are just a small bit of it, imo, since most of the fun derives from parading around towns talking to everyone.

I love Earthbound. I've played Earthbound on an SNes *cough cough*emu*cough*lator... like 6 years ago. It took me sooo long to beat it, maybe 2 years or so. Don't ask why. Because I don't know. And when I finally beat it, I felt empty because it was over. But I've never played again afterwards. But I can tell you, it is my favorite game of all time. If I want to express how I feel about Earthbound, I'd be here typing all day. So I'm not going to.
But no. I have not played Earthbound on the gba. You say it is better than the Snes one? The only way I would believe that is if I play it myself but I doubt that I will. And I cant possibly imagine that that gba Earthbound would beat the Snes Earthbound. But that's maybe because of the good memories I had with this game.

I play Earthbound through again once every now and then, tbh, and love it. It's just one of those games for me that I get the mad urge to play again once or twice per year.
With Earthbound 2, I've just been blown away. It's a lot more deep, but with the same lol-factor to it. The comedy is still there, but the story drags you along far more effectively. Plenty a moments where I first find myself laughing at some weird dialogue or event, and a minute later feel my guts aching from just walking around a village listening to the background music. And personally I don't think I'm easily taking games too emotionally. Only other RPG-moment I can think of that jerked proper tears out of me was in Grandia (ain't spoiling nothing by saying what moment in it!). Well, twice in Grandia. ><
I say fetch it, sir Jey Tee. By any means necessary. I'm not proposing anything *cough cough*emu*cough*lator-ish here, of course... But with the power of GOOGLE I found myself playing the english version of this about 15 minutes after having read about it on the interwebs. ><
