Kara no Kyoukai (meaning "Boundary of Emptiness") was the first masterpiece of TYPE-Moon, the geniuses behind Tsukihime and Fate/stay Night, in form of a light novel with 3 volumes
And now the original novel is being remade into 7 movies. These movies are simply amazing. With the movies' release, the old novel became alot more popular and is now being translated to be shipped abroad (A book is always better than any adaption).
I recommend the movies to anyone who likes anime, a masterpiece of a story and excelent action scenes to boot.
The 6th movie has just come out (in DVD, therefore, subbed in English. Because the 7th is already out, but only in theatres.), here's a peek at Azaka Kokutou's awesome.

Looks interesting. Though I've never heard of the light novel before...
Though the movies, based on what I saw from that clip, look good. I may need to check them out. Anything I should know before I watch the movies?

Anything I should know before I watch the movies? It contains quite a bit of gore, I believe the movies are for Mature audiences only in Japan (+16) Just pay attention because the movies aren't in chronological order and the story gets enormously complex at certain points. Helps if you read/watched any other TYPE-Moon series since they happen in the same world. Here's a wiki: typemoon.wikia.com/

I've watched Fate/Stay Night, but nothing else from their universe that I know of.
As for the complexity, is it as complex as Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex? (If you've seen it that is.) or is it more in line with Fate/stay Night's complexity?

Fate/stay Night's anime wasn't really complex, it's only one route of the entire FSN game/visualnovel, which is the Fate route (Which is also the worst one, it's really just introducing you into Nasu's world)
Actually, a movie of the 2nd route, Rin/Archer's route: Unlimited Blade Works is being made, to be released in January.
Well I can tell you about one of the main subjects of KnK without spoiling, so you can evaluate a bit how complex the movie can be:
Ryougi, the protagonist, due to events that happened in the past (You'll see them in the flashback movies, 2, 4 and a bit of 7) and ends up gaining the power of the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, which lets her perceive the death of objects, beings and even phenomenons that she understands the origin of, in the form of lines and dots.
If the lines are traced, the object's bifurcated, if the dots are stabbed, the object's existence is erased, in a sense that the object loses even its inherent properties such as momentum, toxicity, and generally any effect it may impose on it's surrounding. Living things whose dot was pierced get “stopped” and, as a consequence, die. While this death may not be instant, it is absolutely permanent, and can't be reversed or bypassed, even by reincarnation. (Servants from Fate/stay Night can't be killed by Death Perception since they're essentially clones created by the Holy Grail, the real Heroic Spirits lie in the Akashic Records, the void and origin of all things.).
There's alot more to the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, but I'll say no more.
