It's official. I'm a pathetic human being.
I have just completed the National Pokedex on Pokemon Platinum. This is my third complete Pokedex, the past two being the original Red Version and FireRed Version. Here are a couple of stats about my accomplishment. Look on and take pity on my wasted hours.
Game Started: March 23, 2009
Game Finished: July 10, 2009
Time Played: 231:32
Pokedex: 493
Last Pokemon Obtained: Arceus
Last Non-Legendary Obtained: Metagross
Pokemon Cheated for: The unobtainable pokemon (Mew, Celebi, etc), Latios and Latias, and Milotic (Damn Feebas!).
Anyone else out there complete this meaningless task before?

Well not with the newest ones... Only with Red, Blue and Yellow's 151 and that was it for that ongoing task. Well I am attempting it again with my Damond version ,but god its tough to get some of the pokemon because it often mean I play a version all over again to just to get the ones I often don't have in this version which includes the starters and Emeralds 2nd gen starters. The 2nd Gen staters are Chikorita, Cydiquil and Totodile as a reward from Birch after completing the Hoein Dex which takes forever from what I heard. Which I think the dex needs you to have seen the particuler Pokemon for data. Besides I don't think your pathetic at all. You just proved you can do the seemingly endless task of catching all the Pokemon all the fricken over again and train them.(In my mind probably the most tedious task ever in videogame history.) And if there is another game with a 100 or so I'd think you would most likely just quit your belt as the master and leave it for the next gen of kiddies to continue yet the same endless task you did when Platinum was out. Get what I'm saying?

I never even completed the Red version pokedex. I had a blue version as well a long time ago, but I lost it. So no I have a red version that is one(three--Mew, and...) pokemon away from being complete. All I need is Omonyte....and its evolution of course. Now I am doomed to incompletion. I also have Silver, Ruby, Sapphire, and Firered. Out of all those, Ruby/Sapphire are the only ones I could hope to complete but even then, I don't have the patience to do so...like you said, "Damn Feebas!" EDIT: and no worries....much to my surprise, there are stil alot...and I mean ALOT of people who still play pokemon. I do, just not the latest versions(because first off, I no longer have a DS. Plus the guy looks retarded. I know, never judge by the cover but when the gamestyle is repeated, certain conditions can come into play  ) |

I completed the red version dex, I traded for my last pokemon (Vulpix) in Celadon City and went straight to that big office building to see what my secret reward was. And to my disippointment, I was given a pathetic little certificate that I could print out to show how much time I'd wasted. I was expecting another master ball at the very least! Maybe a chance to catch Mew at best.
It was then I decided completing the pokedex was not worth the hassle and in Silver I completed the game with roughly 50 pokemon. Only around 20 in my second playthrough, after I'd figured out what kind of team I liked.

If I remember right (and that's a big IF because I haven't played a pokemon game in years.) I had about 90 in red, and maybe 170 or so in silver. If I stumbled across it, I caught it but I didn't really try for everyone of them. And I certainly didn't train every one and get it to evolve that way.
I mean I know I never completed the whole pokedex. It was just too much work for me at the time and my limited patience. (I was like 10-12... and much less patient then.)

lol I forgot about leveling them up. I was only able to in Red because of that cheat to duplicate items. (over 9000 rare candies lol) And speaking of the cheat, if MissingNO. counts as a pokemon, then I have captured 150 pokemon |

Sheesh and here I thought you were doing things normally like I did. Well unless you consider normal spending almost 10 hours a day going through packs of batteries just to milk the game out of its worth when I was like maybe 9 or 10 having a whole army of Pikachu which do mind you didn't work till I realized that a balanced team worked best in it all scrapping the idea of a pikachu based party.

having a well-balanced team isn't always the right thing. One thing I forgot to mention was the fact that I worked my arse off to get an army of mewtwos....XD
yes, I played through pokemon blue five times and traded five mewtwos to my red version before I lost it. Though for some reason, the last time I played red--which was years ago--all my mewtwos were in the boxes and I was using the three legendary birds, my starter, and two other pokemon. I wonder what the heck I was thinking.
oh yea, you can't fly and do oter important crap with mewtwos...I guess you do need a good team and I forgot that I already realized that... lol

Whenever I saw someone else's file on a pokemon game, it always annoyed the hell out of me that they would teach their starter Cut.
In related news, I plan to complete the national pokedex on the upcoming HeartGold/SoulSilver games. I just need to decide which one...

Why not take refuge in audacity and do both? If you're going to be a pathetic human being, be the most pathetic human being you can be! That may even result in a magazine taking notice and doing a story on you, and the publicity gives you a chance to show off your humor, and the you get a job as a successful comedian and make millions of dollars.
And then you can pay someone to complete the Pokedexes for you.

im almosst done with platinum ive seen about 315 now i just need to catch them and i already failed that because i killed two of the legendary lake guys so i guess ill get the normal ones

I hit about 350 on Perl Version, using the migration system mainly.... i had just hatched myself a cyndiquil egg, then lost the game on the bus  (cindiquil's one of my favorites as well....) Still, i want Heart Gold/Soul Silver when it comes out, maybe a new bunch of Pokémon will have been released. |
