The first anime I ever watched... That would have to be the original Dragon Ball. (I might have watched other animes, but this is the only one that I can actually recall watching.) As for series after that, that I watched... I can't remember what the next series I watched was.

The first ones I can recall are Neon Genesis Evangelion (subbed) and Dragon Ball (dubbed into Portuguese)

The first anime believe it or not was Sailor Moon dubbed and edited for obvious reasons at the time it was on cartoon network via toonami. At the time I thought it was for everyone then I learned it was for girls and I was like 7 or 8 about kindergarten or 1st grade I believe. Oh well I thought it was real cool and no when your at the age you don't know much about girls other than they had some stupid junk you avoided because you were typical idiots about the opposite sex at the time.

A lot of times subbed is quite good because its basically the same format as it was shown originally only with sub titles for those who don't understand the language. Dubbed is okay ,but remember if your in America or some other country where censership is so top notch then it sometimes gets edited with tape hardcore. I could care less about the nudity I just want to enjoy the show how it was meant to be for the most part.

Dubbed can be fine some of the time... but the problem lies with companies who decide to cut or change things. Take for example Sonic X, in the japanese version there is a character who dies. In the english dubbed version the character simply vanishes offscreen and then that is the last we hear of her. No mention of her fate whatsoever.
I can understand cutting the nudity from a show aimed at children... but I don't think everything needs to be cut out. Death for example is one thing that shouldn't be removed. Why do I say this? Because death is everywhere, it is a core part of living and it should be recognized. But aside from that, death makes the story more touching, something that people can relate to. Even children know what loss is. And sheilding them from loss only hurts them in the end because when they do finally feel it, they have a harder time with it.
Then we have the voice work of the dubs... while it can be great to hear a tv show in your own language... that's not the case if they choose particularly abhorrent voices for the characters. Take for example, Full Metal Panic. In it, the japanese voices are fine, but the dub voices are horrific. The female lead (a supposed high school girl) varys between sounding like a business hardened 35 year old woman and a ditzy 16 year old blonde girl. Her best friend is a mouse on helium. The main character's best friend sounds like a high pitched voice with a permanent cold/stuffed nose or something like that. The only tolerable characters I have heard so far are the main character and one other who has very few speaking lines in comparison. (Kurz Weber... voiced by Vic Mignogna. Which some may recognise as the voice of Brolly or Ed from Full Metal Alchemist. )

No kidding man like with a lot of the Megaman nt warrior and access they were seriously chopped up to bits. Voice actors... Though I have not seen Full Metal Panic I have seen some where the voices don't even match the characters at all sure things improved over time ,but god some of those voices where horrible... Even in videogames the voices need work in some of them... A good example of that would be X7... I'm glad I wasn't completely sheltered my parents trusted me at a very early age. So I got to enjoy a lot more interesting stuff.
