I'm not exactly sure where this belongs on the message board, so I'll place it here.
Yesterday, my brother installed a thing that came up called Spyware Guard 2008, thinking it was an anti-spyware tool. IT IS NOT!!!! If your computer should ask you if you want to install this program (or 2009), say no. The program generates its own spyware so that you'll be tricked into purchasing the full version which will "fix" it. The annoying thing is, not all anti-virus software can find the files to delete. Mine did not, and I had to find free software to get rid of it. Once again, should this show up on your browser, decline the option to install.

The only antivirus or anti spyware you should install from the internet would be:
Avast, AVG, NOD32, Spybot - Search and Destroy, or Ad-aware. And that's only if you click them. If it asks you, AVOID IT! No true antivirus will tell you that you have a virus first then ask you to download so it can get rid of it. That's a trick by conniving and deceptive program builders to fool the not-as-advanced user (or inexperienced) into downloading malicious software. (And most of the time, this false anti-virus, which purports to fix the problem actually creates more than it fixes. It usually installs more viruses and spyware than it ever fixes... Mostly because they aren't designed to fix problems, it's designed to cause more problems.)

Spyware Guard is a pretty lame name...
You usually go with the ones that have the fancier names like NOD or Avast >_>
