Hey everyone...
Just asking you all to be careful when someone sends you a link via msn... Especially if they just send the link as the conversation starter and then either log off or won't reply/don't remember sending the link. Majority of the time if they send you an unsolicited link it is either: 1- A virus, adware, spyware, malware, etc... or; 2- A scam of some sort.
And related to the above issue, if someone sends you a link... you can typically google it/parts of it to see if it is a legitimate link or not. EX- if the url was vz.imshrkeryer.info, (which is a link I made up just now and to my knowledge doesn't point anywhere... ) you could easily just google the "imshrkeryer.info" part.
But now so what happens if someone sent you a link and you clicked on it? (And then entered your information if it asked you for any...) Well, bad news is your account is compromised. so you'd best change your passwaord ASAP. As whoever has your account and password can now access it anytime they want and make any changes to it they want... (including your password.)
If it didn't ask for information (or even if it did, it might be a good idea to anyway), be sure to run your antivirus/spyware scanners to make sure your computer is clean and they didn't try and drop a keylogger or something onto your pc...

This is exactly what happened to me awhile back folks. If a friend seemingly sends you one of these mystery links and logs off ou might want to tell that friend to run a few virus scans, they're infected. Badly.

Happend to me before, I got a virus, but thankfully, since me and my mom are comp nerds, we managed to kill it, it was a very, very strong spyware, but killing its registry code and a few more tricks saved my comp, it happend on my older one though, I didn't get a virus on this comp ever since I started using it. ^^

Those get annoying. The worst ones are the ones that say something along the lines of:
18...female...single...etc.,etc.
Not that I have anything against 18 year-old girls, but the entire purpose of them is for porn.

Not that I have anything against 18 year-old girls, but the entire purpose of them is for porn. Epic philosophy. I've received about two of these odd messages so far, both of which were about some fellow exclaiming - in poor grammar - that some allegedly aforementioned pictures they were to send to me didn't show up, so they provided me with a link to seek them out from instead. Supisicious much? :X

I've had people who aren't on my msn list come up and attempt to send me files. As well as random people sending links to unknown sites like: sgrjeruehr.fhjenrbee.com or ones with Russian domain names...
And then there are the msn hijackings... where people on my friends lists have sent me messages like: "Hey, check out this link" or "is this you?" Especially suspiscious are the ones where people send a link then just sign off... Anything like that I ignore, as it's too easily mark for trouble.

Meh, I just keep getting the same ones over and over again.
How utterly cunning.

I got infected a while back. The stupid little virus crashed my comp. What happened was every time one of my friends logged off it would send a message out to everyone in their buddy list. The cunning part is that it didn't show up in your message history. The actual message itself was along the lines of a imageshaek url is memory serves. As you can tell the url looks like imageshack but only....not. It also says right next to it "Sexy pic. Is this you?" with an arrow pointing to the link. Needless to say i clicked it and i got a virus. >.> And maybe attempts with virus scans failed. It also used my internet as a zombie to spam other people so i couldn't go to an online scan or download a virus scan online. Good thing i had my laptop and my iPod and i loaded up programs to my iPod and transferred them to my desktop. Too bad it still didn't work. But in the end it made me more aware of what i click which is a lesson to everybody. Make sure you know who is sending you the link and that the person knows they are sending it. This experience also made me aware that worms like this usually happen all the time. I had MSN, so i don't know if i occurs on AIM too but i assume so. It just shows that you need to be aware of whats going on while you are chatting. If this does happen to you then a good place to start (if you don't have someone else helping you) is go to the MSN or AIM website and look in it's technical help. 99.9% of the time there will be at least one topic on worms circulating around. There you can see if anyone else is experiencing the same problem, and you can also meet with people who had this problem before. This is also the best place to start to look for virus scanners to try and catch your little bugger (no pun intended). The reason being is that the scans linked there have previously worked on worms from IMs before so you have a better chance of finding one that works for you here. Salene's Advice on IMing: Stay safe while IMing and be aware.
