I've been trying to think of a way to bring this up, but probably the best way is to make a game out of it.

So, here's my idea. You ever notice how sometimes it seems like as soon as you say something, the thread temporarily dies or completely dies off? Well, this game is kind of meant to make a joke out of that. How are we going to do that?

I've got several ideas on how we can make this work. If this thread starts and dies and goes without a post for a couple of days, the last person to post in the game gets a point for every day it's not posted on. First person to hit 10 points wins. In other words, all you have to do is post.

However, it's not as simple as it sounds. You have to stay on topic and make a point about why threads just suddenly hault. If you go off topic in order to make a point, you lose 2 points. (Yes, you can have negative points.)

As an example, say someone posts on June 6 and then there is not a reply till June 9. The person who posted on June 6 gets 3 points.

I know I already said this, but some people may have already forgotten. If you go off topic, you lose 2 points

My initial post does not count.

Just to make sure that people don't just say "Yeah I agree" and that's it, the post must be at least 50 words to count. If the post is less than that, the person above you will be credited with a chance to earn points.

The whole point is to make posts that count, not to just post for the sake of posting.

This game starts the minute someone replies to this message. I know this game is weird, but I think it might also be kind of funny.

1st of all:
There is a topic: "Why do threads die?" (My mistake if I wasn't very clear about that)

2nd of all: The post has to be 50 words. Yours is 40.

Post relevant to the topic and do it in 50 words or more.

Nobody is in line to score yet, as a 50 word relevant post has not yet been posted. Just now be aware I have just posted with more than 50 words. Does everyone understand now?

50 words might be a bit many... Maybe drop it down to 30? especially considering the nature of the topic. I mean there are only so many reasons why a topic dies... The reasons I can think of are:

1- Lack of interest (People get tired of posting in the same topic/ they get tired of posting about the same stuff. This is especially true when combined with the 3rd issue.)

2- Lack of time (Many are busy and don't have all day to reply to every thread, so they have to pick and choose some to reply to and others not to.)

3- Can't think of anything new to add. (Some one might have said everything they want to say and thus there is no reason for them to further post more.)

4- They have something to say but they can't figure the wording out. (Either word it right so they don't sound like an arrogant know-it-all or an annoying little pest or whathave you. To even just phrasing what they want to ask so they can get the answer/reply they need to help them. You know like if your having computer problems you don't want to say: "it's broken." You'd be better off getting help if you say something like: "It throws an error number 325 when I initiate program X with program Y running in the background, it never use to cause this problem but now it does... Can anyone help? ")

5- Or they could have had a post typed but then computer error (or bad net connection or some other issue) cuase entering the post to fail and so the person either got fed up with it and decided against trying again, or they tried again and it happened again or one of the reasons mentioned above became an issue. (Such as they had to rethink how they wanted it to sound or they ran out of time and thus had to leave it to go do something else... like school or work.)

Holy crap, VZ you tricker. Ya won't win this one. Anywho, Topics usually die due to people losing interest. Of course, people have their reasons of losing interest, so with that being said, threads die for diffrent reasons. A great example is the games section. On average, the highest-playing games usually end off with either me or Miguel, no? I usually stop for a second because it gets wierd when it's a chain of posts made only by Miguel and I. So I give it a break and hope that someone posts to keep it running. It'd be a shame to continue and "run my mouth dry" of putting reasons, so I'll stop for now.....I think that's almost/about/whatever 50 words.

Yeah, that definitely seems like a valid reason. It definitely does get kind of tedious when it runs down to just two people. In some ways I like that though because then you end up actually getting to know someone a little bit beyond their name, although you really don't get to know people unless you start PMing them a lot. There's another reason threads tend to die. If there's anything about PMing people, then it just doesn't work.

(By the way, 2 points to Silver Stryker. Sorry, you didn't quite make it 72 hours. I have to be hour specific because people live in different parts of the world.)
