I realize a bunch of this may be stuff that you probably already know, but I thought I'd sum up what I've found so far in the game, both gameplay and story, and then speculate on what the story may be.
I figure we could use this as a spoiler-marked discussion-topic as well, as I didn't want to put big spoilers in the current ZX Advent topic.
Story:
The two main characters are Grey(Reploid) and Asche(Human).
Grey is found in a broken down laboratory by two Hunter soldiers. After they're both killed by Mavericks who enter the room just after them, Grey wakes up and is found by Pandora (she and Prometheus stick around after ZX in other words). Pandora tells him that his name is Grey and that they're "the same", a "rockman". She mentions something about mind control, but I'm not sure what. I suspect it may be that she's saying the mind control hasn't taken grip on him yet.
Grey picks up a gun from one of the dead Hunter soldiers, fires a few shots that Pandora easily block and escape out of the room, commencing the first stage. After escaping the laboratory, he fights a huge robot on a bridge. When destroyed, the robot falls down on the bridge, taking both the bridge and Grey down with it.
Asche starts out on an airship, most likely a group of Hunters cooperating. Three soldiers are talking about a Biometal, possibly one that they're seeking to capture from the enemy, when Asche chimes in. She interrupts the conversation to basically inform them that she's jumping down, most likely over 100m (though I can't confirm that =P), to one of the enemy ships. In other words, it seems she's starting the assault ahead of her companions.
After running and jumping across the ships in the air, she runs into a big robot (yes, the very same kind of robot that Grey fought) and upon defeating it, he falls down to a big airship. Running forward, she finds a hangar door and in front of it, Prometheus.
Chances are the Biometal is inside that door and Prometheus is escorting it.
Asche's companions arrive and they all prepare to fight him, when Prometheus pulls out his Scythe and dashes forward, the screen turning white just as he's about to make contact with the one in the front, Asche.
This is where both characters stories follow down the same path:
You wake up in a hospital bed in a Hunter base.
A Hunter soldier comes in and informs you of the situation and then sends you off to go do missions for the hunters.
Going on your first Hunter mission, escorting the Biometal Model A, you are approached by Pandora and Prometheus. In an attempt to defeat these two, the player fuses with Model A and starts to fight off the enemies on the train, also gaining the first boss (fire reploid) transformation in the process.
(Model A talks a LOT during the game, almost to the extent where I'd call it a sidekick similar to Daxter from the Jak games.)
Afterwards, you are for some reason I couldn't translate tasked with going up what is most likely the Slither Inc tower. At the top of this tower, you find the Model V(W in english versions) Core and fight the second boss (thunder reploid), gaining its transformation. Afterwards, the Core is moved away from the building by the enemy.
For one reason or other, you then head over to an watery area where you encounter the current users of the Guardian Biometals. After a short conversation with them, you're pitted against the third boss (ice reploid) and gain its form.
After defeating these three elemental bosses, you can open the door to get to the big city (the enviroments there are VERY similar to Slither Inc building, so I suspect you're in some kind of main tower building, though most likely not Slither Inc headquarters.)
When you get to the top of the building, you meet three people who seem to be the current leaders of the city. Right before you enter, one of them reveals himself to be a bad guy and suddenly, TWO Model V(W) Biometals start hovering around him. A moment later, those two become FOUR.
You enter the room in an anime sequence and attempt to shoot him, but the Model V biometals block the shots as the bad guy flies off.
After this, it seems the player is tasked with going to the places where the parts of the now scattered Model V Core have been located.
Upon arriving at these places, you get interrupted by the users of the Guardian Biometals. You fight them and they end up running off with the pieces of the Model V Core.
That's as far as I am into the story so far, but I bet someone else somewhere has already written up a way more detailed summary. I believe there are some parts here and there that I've missed in the story, but that's most likely because I'm kinda tired at the time of writing this post.
If anyone finds a more accurate one, please post it here. I could edit it into this post too and give full credit to whoever wrote it.
Gameplay stuff:
The menu works just like before, only the graphical interface is a slight bit different. You have a Zone-map and a map of the current Zone available at any time on the lower screen.
Model A has the ability to copy other reploids by absorbing their DNA Core. Basically, it's the copy ability Axl had. (Does this help to prove that X7/X8 can be considered part of the official storyline rather than X6's Zero ending branching off into MMZ on its own? Probably.)
Whenever you beat a boss (except the mini-bosses you find during the stages) you get their DNA Core regardless of if it's a normal Reploid or if it's a Biometal user.
The users of the Biometals survive the encounters obviously, but you still get their DNA Cores and with them the ability to use the 4 Guardian Biometal forms.
So basically, you don't get Biometals like in ZX. You copy them.
You get several of the abilities the bosses have and the stages are made to make use of all these abilities (for example, the first boss can do an uppercut-jump punch that can break blocks in the roof, a sideways drop-kick that can break blocks in front of you and while he can't slide down walls, he can walljump and walljumps longer and higher than any other form in the game).
...and there is probably a lot more I could put in here. If there's anything I obviously missed, especially about the gameplay mechanics or things I haven't told about them, tell me and I can put it in. I'll be beating this game pretty soon I suppose, so then I'll be able to fill in the story further unless we find a much better summary.
Anyway, I figure this could be a fitting topic to discuss the story of the game fully without spoiling those who just want general information about ZX Advent (which I suggest we keep to that other thread)
....and now I really hope this thread isn't considered trash xD
