Has anyone besides me checked out this excellent manga? I tell ya, it's definately in my personal top 10 list. Thing is, whenever I ask my friends about it, they tell me they've never heard of it. Sure, they might know about the movie, but the manga... It honestly isn't that rare. Galbadia Hotel has every issue, as I recall. Death NoteWell, anyways... To those who do not know the manga, it is about this guy and a shinigami (basically a japanese Grim Reaper/God of Death), yeah? This shinigami drops his "Death Note", that the shinigami use to kill people, into the real world, where this guy finds it. Then he starts killing criminals and a mysterious detective called "L" begins to investigate, resulting in a cat-and-mouse game all over the place. Which, by the way, means that there are lot's of parts in the story where the going gets pretty intense.

I felt pity for you storm that not much people here has ever heard of this great read of a manga, and hey I only read the first few volumes a year ago and just stopped coz I'm forbidden from dloading mangas coz of my siblings who thinks I'm the main reason for the huge bills, when they themselves also are responsible.
*I wonder how far it's gotten upto

Haha, yeah. I liked it up until around the end of issue 7, chapter 61. I'll try to prevent use of spoilers, but man, I really really hated chapter 58. After that, I no longer enjoyed Death Note so much, I enjoyed it when Raito and L would exchange thoughts, then both thoughts would be the exact same, and they'd just be predicting 10 steps ahead of each other, which got them to the same point and they already knew what was going to happen for the next 3 pages before they showed us.
Also, dying to watch the anime when that comes out. I'll also watch up to the scene in 58, then I'm done. The movie seems very good as well. =3 Ryuk's VERY well done!

Me, I have very mixed feelings about the anime. Should I read the manga and then watch the anime, or should I wait for the anime and then finish the manga? The anime might look better, but the manga is too exciting not to read! I seem to be facing a troublesome dilemma indeed.

Woah, awesome news! I'll definately have to check it out, then! I'll keep reading the manga, but since the anime is appearantly so good, it doesn't really matter which I check out first!
Man, I felt shitty all day, and now I got this whole positive vibe going on! Awesome!

The students carried around little black books where they wrote the names of the people they didn't like. They were just joking around, but appearantly the goverment/school board/God did not approve and they banned it.

I'm sorry for revivng this dying thread, but I just want to say that I am not an anime fan, and still think Death Note is one of the greatest shows ever. I absolutley love it. The characters are just amazing. The continuing battle between L and Light is genious, and the fact that there is no real "good guy" and "bad guy" makes it even better. It's crazy how different people react to these series. Some people might root for L while other root for Light, unlike other animes where it's all one sided. The story is just one of the most briliant ones I've ever seen. If this were ever made into a show with human actors, i think it would be one of the most succesfull shows ever. But they wouldn't do it since they already made a movie.
