well we're still wondering what is this "three-step system" you're talking about.

I think he's reffering too the combat system or the fact enemies come like almost every ten steps you run, five if you dash constently and 25 if you walk but, that's usually random as far as I'm concerned. Those numbers were the averages I got. I got nothing on the combat system though because I'm not completly sure if that's what he's reffering too...

What random said, as for the combat system. You soley just spam 3 buttons as fast as it's your chars turn, you don't need to think unless it's a boss fight. Spam L are and A and there, you've beaten 98% of all fights in the entire game without breaking a sweat.

I'd hazard a guess that its: 1- Attack 2- Attack 3- Heal
So character 1- X attacks Character 2 - (Your preference) attacks Character 3 - (Most likely Cinnamon) heals
Or possibly he's referring to the cheap trick with Axl... Bait while Axl is in hypermode. Attack with all others.

well, Cinnamon was actually fun to use, bringing her into iron maiden then use her to punch the enemies in the faez was always fun to watch.

If they reduced the number of random battles, considering it popped up far too many times- and revamped the whole combat system and made something actually fun to use instead of the "spam three buttons" system that is clearly a waste of talent from Capcom, I would like to see a second command mission, however, if they would keep the combat system, they could throw it in a lake and then have the director suicide in acid. One piece of Sh** is enough. The story was good and kinda interesting, but the constant and time consuming, aswell as pointless random battles aswell as the really fricking dull combat system that took a moron to understand, was what made the franchise a pile of turd, unfortunately. As much as I personaly love the Megaman series (atleast the X ones and the old NES ones, atleast 1 and 2 >_>, aswell as the Zero series, haven't got a chance to try XZ), It's not fun to look at something that could've been kickass, and see how up it became. A mindless buttonmasher that was supposed to look like a RPG, but turned out to be a pile of turd with a nice storyline.

So then do you hate most rpgs in general? because as far as I see many rps have battles that are needlessly easy... And besides you you really want every battle to be a struggle to survive?
But if you look at it in comparison... Normal enemies in all the games just aren't that tough. So why completely change it so that enemies from X-X8 which could be killed in a few shots now take 10 minutes to blast away. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you think about it.
As far as the combat system, what do you want? Press x, then triangle, now circle, now wait for the cursor to line up, tap triangle and then if your lucky the attack might hit? No. Simplicity is sometimes for the best. In fact I'd rather have the same X button attack work well for most things because typically that's what is going to be used for all the common enemies. (It's the same thing for Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, Xenosaga, Dragonquest etc... ) If you make it overly complicated then your just going to get sick of using it... so you're back to square one, moaning about the battle system.
Admittedly there were too many random battles and you didn't get quite enough experience for fighting them... (There weren't very many great places to train up...)
But it is by no means that bad of a game.
I do wonder what it would have been like if it's battle system were more like Star Ocean 3 though... (Atleast in the free roaming aspect and being able to target enemies and then shoot them, but keep the weapon energy system with the modification that it builds up as you move, but decreases as you use special weapons instead of building up per turn.)

((star ocean ftw))
Not all rpg's are easy....well they are for me but that's not the point. I assume angry is into the old RPGs, as they were more challenging then the ones that are around now.
Now that I think about it, he is right in that the game's fights were too easy, even in the face of bosses(except Botos, but then again I jetted through the level underleveled on him. A couple of those elemental item-blast things took him out)
I think the 3-step system could've worked if they put more thought into it.

Agreed they should have put more thought into it but, at least they attempted the first Megaman X RPG...

Yeah, the Axl/Bait combo is rather cheap (Especially when using a Generator with it to use his AT more often.).
And Cinnamon was not only fun to use, but also very effective. Give her Kitty Gloves, a Generator and an Energy field. Then add an SFM Fragment Beta. Now throw that Powerhouse into Hyper Mode. Your enemies will Sh** themselves in fear, garunteed, or your money back. The only way she could've been better is if she had a second Hyper Mode. And I can actually imagine what her's would be like.
And as for the high random encounter rate, it's worse in the GCN version.

I would have to say Lufia 1 as a really good example of a awesome RPG. That game was so friggin hard at some places, that I even lost against battles vs random mobs.

That is classic I'd say I remember that game a bit... However that was a long time ago. Right when I just started to be a gamer good call. I also remeber playing the first final fantasy as well around that time... On topic: Encounter rates oh yeah I'll admit that was really the whole annoying part of that game was really that in general. I get close to recharge subtank gem after a battle and another battle pops up and I'm like oh just great real great... Guns a blaze I'd say and I will get my butt fried everytime.
