So for a while now I keep hearing this insolent fool rant on and on about how awesome he is at Resdent Evil 4/5 whatever number capcom is on. He also takes a huge part in bragging about Halo, Call of Duty, SSBB, and something Fight. Either way it is clear that this punk is a major gamer, or a wanna be. It so happens that I gave a speech on the history of Video games and pulled out the greatness of manifested consesls, the Super NIntendo. Turns out this self proclaimed 'Hardcore gamer' had never laid sights on such a beauty, let alone play it. In fact, hardly anyone did! I was set in a period of awe, as the deprived students couldn't understand how a game with two buttons could possibly be fun. Then, they claimed that people who play old games are lame because they lack grapfics, yet I find these old delights to be oh much more entertaining than their new born brothers. I decree that anyone who claims to be a gamer but has not played the old greatness needs to hear these lines from a [you] REAL [/you]gamer: "What did you do, take on the Covenet army? Big woop, I Saved the Prinsess, Beat Mother brain, Took out all 8 robot masters, dig and dug, completed the Triforce, ran as super sonic, saved dreamland, and made Pac-man my . All in one day."

lol well said on the last part.
However I didn't think people actually thought like that. Every time I hear video game topics, it's nothing but "the good 'ol days." (same can be said for cartoon shows too....childhood in general) and yes, I mean in RL.

Exactly what were these people on?
Seriously, I thought Graphics Prioritizers had gone extinct.
Try showing these people Maverick Hunter X, then the snezz em em ex.
They shall bow in awe at the severe lack of bullshit found in the snezz version.

If any of you read VG Cats you've seen this already. But games are too easy today. Back in the day games were proporly difficult, one could spend hours trying to make a simple jump over a pit and it was frusteratingly enjoyable. We enjoyed how hard it was, the blood, sweat, tears and rage made beating the damn game much more an accomplishment.
But yeah, as the comic summarizes, now that its cool to be a gamer, gaming companies are either making things easier to appeal to masses or just not putting effort into making games good because they know they'll make enough money doing it half assed. And that really is sad for all of us who have saved the princess and beaten all of the robot masters.
VZ says: Remember, avoid linking to pages with alot of cursing. (Even if it's the vg cats.)

Sounds like these glitch heads who think are hot know not of the old fire of the past need to get shot with a shout out from me. Yeah I remember the good ol days were games of the most simpliest design proved to be the best challenges ever compared to these new gen games. Sure they got graphics, more buttons, better sound quality, and what voice actors. Back in the days of the SNES was art and some of those games I remember made me just downright ugh at times ,but I felt a better sense of accomplishment then that of new babes. These new games now in days are now just I don't know what to say sure its nice you can get to play with people across the world. That's cool ,but you lack the substance that once made games great. Yeah you weren't the only one who got a couple of idiots who are like that...

There were many crap games produced years ago... Look at the number of crappy snes and nes games vs the number of crappy games now. And then compare that to the number of great games for each of the systems. (I haven't done a full comparison myself...) But I think you would find that more games now are of higher quality due to the fact they are competing for the same dollar now.
I mean the crash of the videogame market was due partially to the game market being flooded with cheap and poorly designed games. And current game designers don't want that to happen again.
As well because of the sheer level of technological improvement, our definition of crap may have changed as well. I mean yes, I don't think graphics are that important... BUT one of the first things people look at when they see a game is... Graphics. They are either impressed by them or not. Impressed brings more interest to the game and potentially more money, whereas if they don't like initial looks they may dismiss it as crap. (Not giving the game the chance it deserves.) They might notice the music first, and this may replace graphics instead of reasons why they dismiss a game. But even still, they aren't giving a game a fair chance.
But even if it hasn't you do have to see that production values are often higher now... As well as production costs. Which means that current game studios have to spend more time and money to make games, thus they try and make sure each of their games are the best they can be. And this is links back to what I said earlier about games competing for the same dollar. Though obviously not all games are made the best they can... some companies rush their games for various reasons. (EX- a movie based game being released on the same day as the movie.) And these old games, if available, are still competing for that same money... and without a real trial capability they're just judging based on looks. Even if they hear how good it is, they may be used to something different so they have a hard time getting into it.
Admittedly, you will find that some of the people are just idiots and no matter what refuse to see the value of the old games and their contribution to today's gaming market.

I take it that ignorance is bliss this day and age? Oh well what can you do right? I can understand children born after our era those who were born with us should know better is all I got to say. Yeah you got strong points Mr. Virus and that is very true I should have considered that as a factor. I may have been in the era of the SNES ,but at least I knew what in gods name what that was and a NES and older systems as well. The only thing I missed however was some great games because I didn't get a SNES till fairly late about the time of the Playstation, The N64 and The Sega Dreamcast made their debut. Even when I got the SNES I also missed out what that generation of systems had to offer in terms of great games.

I completely agree with VZ on this. And near anything I have to say would just be repeating whta he said.
But I do have this for your consideration: You cannot deny that at least part of your adoration of old games is the nostalgia. Whether it's how it's been a year or more since you played it, but you can still beat all the levels of MM2 without taking damage on the first time through, or the way the NES controller fits comfortably in your hands even though it's famous for being one of the least ergonomic controllers ever, you wouldn't like the games as much without the memories attached to them, and the fact that you can regail tales of games old enough to have not been seen by most of today's youth. Sure, you'd still like the old games, but you wouldn't love them. You wouldn't be willing to get into a fistfight over who's the better Mario brother.
Huh. Took longer than I thought to say that...

True to that ,but sometimes it takes more I guess. The reason I find old stuff better is because they were the stones that paced forward to advance and you sure do see it a lot throughout human history. Eventually by whatever year say maybe 2100 if we don't destroy the earth or something by then which I won't know anyways. They would look back at these systems we have now as relics of era not as advanced ,but to them it maybe simple verses as to what they may have. Sometimes I'm tired of people knocking down the classics because either they don't know or had a bad time or reveiw with it which is understandable ,but those who make claims of being hardcore because they are good at the new stuff isn't as much of big deal to me I guess because they never took the time to understand what it truelly means. Am I saying I am hardcore no because I know I am not because I just enjoy what I think is fun verses to what they think is fun and more satifying to them.

well either way, there's no need to be hard on them. Just like always, time will repeat itself and one day, some new army of systems will be out with more iconic heroes and villians(HOPEFULLY!) with these, now old, halo peeps sitting there going, "Pssh, What do these retarded kids know about gaming? I took out the covanant army, defeated the locust horde, kept the universe from being deleted by the fourth dimention, Out-bladed Vader with Mitsirugi, AND became the last best hope for humanity all in one day."
And just like pong, Kirby Super Star and Mario RPG will be forgotten(I know Pong ain't forgotten, but do you honestly hear nostalgia from it as much as the NES/SNES era...?)

Sometimes they do need the occasional kick in the rear ,but generally sometimes its best to see how they fare with thier titles they consider themselves to be. Pong... The funny thing with that game is oddly I could never beat it... Which makes me wonder as how the old school gamers did well at that everyday. Well I still enjoyed the game even if I got my butt kicked at it everytime... Ain't that ironic which is very true indeed Silver. Reminds of the VG comics invloving the two gameboys and the original pokemoe games in comparison to the new ones. My favorite line in it was Mew who? From I think the white DS lite and the old gameboy is like ugh in the face... I guess there is no point for me to continue dicussing this subject any longer...
