I think the classics are the best. If you are new to the series, start with some of the later(PSX) games, or Megaman 2 (it had 2 difficulties). And I will be very impressed if anyone has beaten the original Megaman WITHOUT cheating, saving, saving states, or ANY of that cheap crap. ... I did =)
And trust me, if you think the first 6 bosses are hard, you're in for a big treat at the end.
P.S. I am totally lovin' the classics.

I never used any cheep things (like elec man) and the only part that is really hard is the yellow demon, who I on't feel like using my only energy tank on. I dont think it's as hard as people say. Everyone says how hard Gutsman's level is, but I thought that was the easiest (Iceman being hardest)

Well i didnt hate the stages at all but i hated the GOT D""""" son of a b"""" m""""""" bosses .Tell you what if you were Dr.wily what would you do?make Rm without weakness and well other stuff like "dont wait in the boss room just attack megaman alltogether".Now that could have maded Dr. wily a great victory but its just capcom who decide wich side will win .

Well if Wily was a REAL genius, he would'nt be beaten 9 times in a row (probally even more times). I guess he just thought it was cool to let them all wait in a tiny little room waiting for megaman.

I like the classics. Only problem is the stage enemies are either too fast or too "bulletproof" or just plain annoying as they take advantage of Megaman's "No crouching" rule. Still, it's quite addictive to play (still a little annoyed because Megaman still can't crouch and shoot).
Favorite enemies or bosses... hard to decide because all of them are so hard that I can only beat one before I get a game over. Maybe one word. Tengu.

when i said they cant be beaten i didnt mean that in terms of game difficulty i meant it in terms of game quality.

Megaman 2 is the only MM game that has difficulty to choose. I think thats wrong and you know why they gave the Difficulty to choose?
Cause Japanese only gave Difficult mode to their games and they thought americans were too slow and unskillful enough so they gave the Normal Mode and passed their Normal to Difficult Mode.
You might be laughing or crying, but its true, i read this in an article a few years ago
