Don't ever give up guy. As Fefnir says doing college first is a plus for guys interesed in joining as a member of the armed forces. Sure if the job they give you as marine or whatever you want to be is default ,but having general knowledge ahead of time with something could net you a better job while being in the armed forces as well as something to look for after doing service. So you got a good plan already guy. Though to it is your choice ,but who did you promise? A promise is important and to me it shows honor ,but if you feel college isn't for you then choose your own path. Though doing something first before the other has its benefits. It just requires the sacrifices you have to make to obtain your goal.

Also, DONT SIGN AN OPEN CONTRACT!! what that is is they just stick you in a job that they need somebody. And the jobs that don't get filled are the shitty ones. If your favorite job aint available, find a different one or tell em you'll wait.

Yo peeps, just checking in on everyone and letting you know how I'm doing. My military service is doing pretty well. I spent two months in the Artillery NCO School, where I studied communications, before I was shipped to the Supply and Transportation Company to become an NCO charged with maintaining food supplies. I am also in charge of preparig said food supplies. The time I spent in the Supply and Transportation Company, also known to us as HUKO, was the best time of my life. Sure, it was a lot more hectic than previously, but the instructors there had one very important thing to teach. "Even if the training is Sh**, even when you're crawling in the mud with the NCO's yelling at you, always do things with a smile on your face." And it's true, the training sucks and nobody likes it, but why not, let's laugh! For this reason HUKO was known to us as the Humor and Comedy Company. ;D I've been shipped back into the 1st Field Artillery Battery to train the rookies. After two months, I will be assigned a cooking team to lead. From there on, I will train them and watch as they break down crying from all the training. >=D I've actually started to like serving in the military. Communications really weren't my thing, and I was really depressed when I had to study them. When I moved to the Supply and Transportation Company, life started to look like worth living again. I was recently promoted to Corporal, and me and the boys went to a titty-bar to get wasted. The cap'n wasn't too pleased, but our leftenant was more than happy. You see, we were granted an extended evening leave on one condition: Our leftenant would drill us first thing in the morning. I felt like Sh** doing it, running around in the freezing snow, but I must admit it really worked wonders on the slight notion of hangover. All in all, life is looking good. I don't know about making sarge, but I'll give it a shot. I feel silly for not going to reserve officer school. I propably wouldn't have had the points to cut it anyways, but I'd've skipped quite a few ranks, there and then. I'll be heading back to the military today. I had a long leave for the new year's eve, so it doesn't bother me that much. It's gonna be a fairly boring week. We'll be heading to the firing range later in the week, and those trips suck . You shoot, you eat crappy food and then you shoot some more before coming home. Oh well, at least I don't have to hold any training courses that day. Storm out.

Yo boys, guess who's back in town? Yup, good ol' Storm. All in all, it wasn't all that bad. I went to NCO school, got out, trained me a squad and served wtih said squad, succesfully completing all of our exercises out in the woods, going as north as Lapland.
All in all, I enjoyed my service quite greatly, and I'm considering studying in cadet school, and making myself a military man for good.
Anyways, what I really wanted to do was catch up on the boards. Me, I'm way too lazy to shuffle through all the sections and their threads to figure out what's happenin', so would you fellas mind fillin' me in on the latest headlines.
Primarily, is there any life left on this board?

Ehh, there's some life but not much. Lets see.... I think you missed one of the Misadventures of Vile about the holidays, Nazeris made some sprite comics, Random has been trying to keep the board going. Yeah, not much. I don't even see the green bug around anymore.

That's about right ,but not much discussion lately. Everything seems at a stand still on here. The most I've done is check messages if anything and even that has less life then leaving the occasional new thred open for those who want to disscuss something or anything. Just too quiet... I wonder what this board was like back in its hay day? When all the mods and the laeder were around along with all if most of the members who were the original regulars. I see you got a big step completed. A military man is an honarable man keep at it and support what you belive is right. So your cooking days are over or are you still the cook?

For now I'm still working as a cook to get the bills paid, but as I said, I might be applying for cadet school next year. I was greatly inspired by my own instructor in the military. He was a really relaxed, no-nonsense kinda guy who'd always just randomly pop up to one of our squad's stations, say something cool and then disappear again. I really enjoyed working with him, and I wanna be just like him if I ever manage to get that far. One time, we were just doing our usual routine, the boys had set up the "artillery" and I'd set up a guardpost, and I was doing something random, and he pops up outta nowhere, and starts just talking about random crap with my boys. No other instructor does that kinda stuff. When asked where he got his reserve officer training, he put on his shades, inhaled on his cigarette and said in this really dark tone: "SissiRUK. Shitties time of my life." And then he disappeared somewhere again. PS. In the FDF it is a widely known fact that all types of sissi-training (guerilla warfare) sucks , and Sissi-Auk sucks even more, and that SissiRuk is the worst of them all. It usually involves gruelling physical training, long marches and heavy training in the worst possible terrain. Crossing a body of water when it's -25 Celsius is completely normal in the winter. Needless to say, having gone through SissiRUK automatically makes you a tough azz mofo.

Wow.
Ya know I'e been considering dropping college for the army. mostly because my older bro would be there to guide me through all the tough spots. Only 6 years and he's already an E7....something tells me that if it weren't for the requirement, he would've been that sooner. Its soo cool that both you and my older bro are telling these stories. It's like you're both Solid Snake, or Raiden. You both talk of having badass mentors, though my bro's only went to war what...3 times?
this is so awesome.

So your bro went to war, eh? Can't say I've done anythin' like that, being in the Defence Forces and all. And the thing in the finnish military is that it's a lot more like long-sighted unit production for the reserve than active service. On the last day I was assigned a unit and a squad of two men, and I should still be hooked up with two guys more next year. The reason why I trained six guys when my squad only needs four is for the sake of unit production. I only kept one of my own boys, and the rest will be assigned squads later on.
I dunno where your bro is serving, but I'll bet that my training is significantly different from his. Ours is a training that ensures that 70% of the male population can handle and assault rifle and basic assault tactics, as well as function in their own style of warfare. Me, I'm in the maintenance all the way, but I've spent a few months in a jaeger company, and I rolled with a few dragoons and MP's, so I can handle myself both indoors and out in the woods.
Our tactics are generally more passive, too. We rely heavily on our ability to function undetected for long periods of time, using camouflage and constantly moving from one place to another to conceal our entire forces. We do, however, all go through the same basic training to ensure that when the Sh** hits the fan we are capable of affecting the enemy with our weapons with somewhat equal skill, regardless of unit.
I remember this one time, we (the jaeger battalion) and my friends squad (from the artillery battalion) were both in the same exercise. We in the jaegers had really relaxed rules of conduct, since we were just doing some routine combat simulations, while the artillery battalion's boys were playing with wartime rules. We were also placed in the same station, too.
This boiled down to my boys walking around in their t-shirts having fun, cooking food and sunbathing, while my friend and his boys were walking around in full combat gear. They even had to keep a guard post manned 24/7. Oh I so love our organization.
