On September 20, 2008, Toonami had it's final broadcast, cancelled by Cartoon Network.
Toonami was a few hours of cartoons that played on Cartoon Network on the week days. From about 3-5 p.m, it played japanese cartoons, which everyone refers to as Anime.
Later, it was moved to Saturday night and replaced by Miguzi(which has long since ended.) It had a bigger variety of shows on at this point, running from 7 p.m to 11 p.m.
With more time, they could start airing movies! Cartoons, of course. They ran most of the Dragonball Z movies, A straight month of Miyuzaki movies(referred to as A month of Miyuzaki,) and numerous animated films, both american and japanese cartoons.
Finally, Toonami aired Naruto, definitely their most successful show to run. It ran well, even past the finale and into the filler season. But as time went by, people lost interest in Toonami's trump card(the fillers, most likely,) and stopped watching. Eventually, Toonami had lost too many viewers, and had been ultimately canceled.
I don't know what this means to anybody now, but I remember Toonami being the first source of anime available to me as a kid. I used to watch cartoons like Gundam Wing, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Voltron, Outlaw Star, G. Gundam, Yu Yu Hakusho, Cyborg 009, Rurouni Kenshin, and many others that I can't remember. It introduced me to this whole genre of cartoons, comics, and eventually, people.
I regret to say that I didn't watch Toonami at it's end either. I had to see it online. Stings a little. Now that it's gone, I want it back.
RIP, Toonami.

...I missed it when it was on the weekdays before it moved on to weekends... Now its gone with a bang... One I was just a wee lad I remember going home everyday and when Toonami was on it had many great shows. One of them being the Thunder cats, DBZ, Dragon Ball, voltron, salior moon was technically my first anime ever, Reboot and a lot of other missed shows... Saddening to hear after its dayview so many years ago when I was like in kindergarten or 1st grade I think.... Well good bye Toonami... You have brought us all some real great shows that will be missed... So here be the prayer to you.

Tis a sad day for mankind now. Thats what made me become a Gundam addict. And who didn't run home from school just to watch the most vilont show on air, DBZ? Those were childhood days my friends, and now they have faded away. I say that this deserves a moment of silence. ...... ....... ........ .........

I remember when was growing up, I didn't have any friends. I was bored out of my mind after school. The day I discovered toonami was by far the best day in my life. Withou it I'd never would have seen anime (not that I knew it was anime at the time)
I admit that over the years I watched less of it, but to see it gone for good?

Those bastards made a grave-digging mistake doing that. If you look at the other programs that run during the day, you could see that they ran it off to make room for their kiddie shows. Cartoonnetwork used to be well rounded for pretty much everyone, and now they're making room for children. Of course, their biggest competitor is Adult Swim. They would've ran that off long ago if not for its popularity. It pissed me off greatly to see Toonami destroyed so simply like this, and while it may not be my first and favorite anime place(S.Korea's action chennel featuring Ninku, powerstone, Flame of recca and Samurai X took the cake long ago ) It still made a huge impact on me with DBZ and Gundam. I'd have complained the moment I saw Tom telling me it was the final broadcast and for me to "stay gold...I'll see you later..." but I don't know what to do to send a complaint.... .....I miss you already Tom... No are.I.P Tom!!!!! You aren't dead! I WILL see you later!.....some day....

Cartoon Network used to be better... As for Toonami, pretty much only thing on it I ever watched was DBZ...
And I missed alot of the other newer stuff cause I only had the US satellite for a while before it became too expensive among other reasons...
Then I had to switch to the Canadian equivalent, YTV. (And it's anime section which didn't come out for a few years... Bionix.)
But nevertheless, if Cartoon Network sees how much they messed up and they find that nothing else will work thye may reinstate it... I mean really, how many 8 yr olds are staying up til midnight to watch the anime?

Good point my freinds good point... but, still Adultswim is ok some what but, it still doesn't feel like good old thunder cats if you know what I mean... To many kid shows of what they run now is meaningless if you say the least back like maybe in 1994 to whatevey they used to have all the real good cartoons as well. Like Swat Cats or maybe the godd old saturday Cartoons... Heck the only thing good seeing in Cartoon network is Tom and Jerry and that is during the day and that is about it...

You liked swat kats too?!
;D
That was one of my fav. shows. My older bro pretended to be T-Bone(big guy) and I was Razor(Skinny guy) and we'd put two chairs in a line and pretend we were sky fighting enemies lol.
....erm,....On topic: um, Yea.... Cartoonnetwork will pay...yes...>_>;

Of course man along with the original transformers from the 80's, Popeye the Sailor man and Tom and Jerry were my very favorites and still are.... Cartoon Network will pay but, how its not like they care about us older folk who grew up with the times watching cartoons that were very good. The sad thing be really is when a new generation will probably do the same as us old generation kids who remembered those great cartoons and block periods that were awesome. Too bad they buried a precious jewel in deed.

I guess ppl haven't heard of the sci-fi channel (channel 46 in east). They show at 7:00pm on friday and saturdays anime. They even show bleach and street fghter episodes. They also sometimes have japan anime movies. I saw street fighter alpha movie(Kickass) and some of bleach. Lastly, MORE ANIME SHOWS
I stopped watching tonmani 3 years ago. The host was cooler back then. he looked almost like a sparten. But now he looked gayer in 08. I only watched DBZ and thats it.

Was it the one where Ken was captured and Ryu fought him near the end?
I used to have that movie, and is the only one I've ever saw. I've been meaning to see the one with Makoto for a while now.
