I think he's afraid Rachel will catch him with Alcohol on his breath. Then again, it may be a specific type of alcoholic drink that detective Moore has that caused the change.

The series have not ended. They're still running in Japan There are 83 episodes dubbed and 469 (and counting) in Japan wow this has to be the bigist anime other than pokemon... |

It seems that the Japanese really love the Sherlock Holmes idea of it. That is what got me hooked.
